European network on data-driven policing and discrimination

Hi all! I have been member of this forum for a while - and would love to present you all with this effort and it would be really great for us if we can connect with the Technopolice community.
Several months ago we started with the Justice, Equity and Technology Table, bringing together organizers, advocates, activists and other practitioners who are working at the intersection of police surveillance tech and racial justice, antiracism, and anti-discrimination.
Our initial field-scan and conversations during and outside our meetings, confirm again and again that structural discriminatory policing against racialised minority and migrant communities runs rampant across Europe. As there is a shift towards data-driven technologies in policing there is an urgency to consider the impacts of this development for racialised minority groups.
There is a deeply felt necessity to build a broader set of visions and strategies of engagement with data-driven technology - which include addressing the power structures behind data-driven implementations, depart from deliberate social justice frameworks and which centre the experiences of targeted communities and builds alternatives.
This network aims to contribute to this wide felt need, as a space for convening, connecting and strategising with organisers who have put tremendous effort in building movements up to this day. Our main efforts will be focused on documenting harms with This is What Police Tech Looks Like and on gathering inspiring strategies of contestation with Refusing Control: Inspirations for Organising Against Data-driven Policing.

We are especially – though not exclusively - looking to connect with people who are documenting the harms of police-tech on the ground and researching the security technology industry, anti-racist organisers throughout Europe as well as broader advocacy efforts around surveillance and data-driven policing.
